Gold Soul / International One / Abduction Of Margaret

@ Doncaster Leopard
We have three very different bands this evening, with different styles of music guaranteed to hit the spot. We welcome to the stage four piece punk band, Abduction of Margaret first tonight. The Newcastle band proved a real hit with the audience, managing to keep people's attention throughout. Energetic with a good sense of humour (as you can tell from their name) seems to do them a lot of favours, and have really catchy and well written songs. They all play well together and are so much fun to watch. One band member was just doing the sound effects, which might not sound like much but it really added that extra cool touch to their songs. Definitely ones to watch.
Up next we have a slightly chilled out sound in the name of International One. This five piece from Manchester were definitely the best band of the evening, which included a saxophone player adding originality and a wonderful melodic sound. 'Daggers' was one that the audience loved which had a mellow sound when the acoustic guitar was used. One of the guitarists also used a delay pedal making some songs sound even better and obviously this band have a lot of talent. A great live band to go and see.
Now, I'm not sure if it was simply the fact that people were getting tired by the time Gold Soul performed, but they seemed to lack something. Four piece Indie band from Barnsley sounded very similar to Oasis, maybe it's just their influences, but I get the feeling they need to develop their own style somehow. Although, saying that, 'Hit The Ground Running' was a really cool and catchy song with a great rhythm section, and they have the potential to be a fantastic live band. Maybe the singer needs to look a little less bored and get into it a bit more, or maybe they just need a few more vocal harmonies, I can't put my finger on one particular thing. Constructive criticism aside, all the band members seem really nice guys and could do very well in the future. Go and see them and judge for yourselves.
